He was on his first mission for his employer an American oil company there to meet an old French colleague in a supposedly joint venture with his own oil company. An exploration party and their gear has also disappeared and they are commisoned by the American oil comapny to find them all. Just five months ago five rival small armies competed for control of Chad's capital. The French stepped in but having left; a Libyan backed leader is now charge of the capital with tentatvie control of some of the rest of this sub saharan country. In their search they encounter slavers, rival clan leaders and genocidal southern tribes all trying to advantage of the chaos. Amidst this is the duplicitous French oil company playing its own double game on behalf of the French secret service. The couple take sides and form their own alliances and armies as they travel from desert scrub in the north to the luxriant jungle in the south and back again. Alice with her long ginger hair becomes known as fire djinn. It both helps and hinders their quest. An exciting adventure with plenty of humour, action and romance in this historical story filled with many colourful characters. Approx 922 pages
