The Poseid (The Long Tunnel Book 2) (English Edition) [Kindle-editie]

The submersible Poseid was a machine of destruction, but not of war since few of the lesser races even knew of the existence of such machines, let alone had seen one up close. Only those few who had mastered the skill required to sail beyond the sight of land caught rare glimpses of the machines, believing that they were the greatest serpent beasts still alive. Of the seven such vessels in existence; Ad-mal was the Poseid’s commander. Ad-mal earned his position, not because of his knowledge, but because he possessed personal traits beneficial for orchestrating his benefactor’s personal agenda. The 1st Age of Atlantis was a time of magic and the beginning of technology, focused on genetics in order to regain the years taken from the Atlanteans the gods. One man, Ilian of Aralon, was the chief architect of the demise of that Age when he envisioned personal uses for a potentially lethal creation, the first virus known to humankind—the common cold. He killed millions of innocent people when he accidentally released it into the air of Atlantis, sending civilization spiraling back toward its beginning. After thousands of years of struggle, the Atlanteans grew their civilization again, with a new purpose. Technology advanced their lives beyond anything known today, yet the Fire of the gods that burned eternal in the Temple of Poseidon was foretelling the end of the 2nd Age.Near the end of the 2nd Age, Theodon, Silena, and Ilian returned, but not as friends growing up together. Ilian returned first as Ad-mal of Patria, a simple farmer’s son whose aspirations were greater than his initial lot in life. Again, drawn to the excitement of the military, he enlisted in the Atlantean Navy, using treachery to rise rapidly through its ranks. Theodon returned as Sollis of Poseidis, a creative young man with a gift of inspiration for making electrical technology better. Silena returned as Helena of Gardina, an intelligent young woman with aspirations toward Electrical Science, driven only by a desire to make life better. The University of Atlantis afforded Sollis and Helena the opportunity to meet in fulfillment of their ancient vow, yet failed relationships that they both viewed as insurmountable, burdened both to inevitable failure.Their attraction was undeniable, yet each preferred to ignore it, at least until fate brought them together on a project of mutual interest, one that also brought Ad-mal into their lives. Allowed to retrofit the submersible with a new form of propulsion of their design, the two scientists worked hard while Ad-mal objected to every change they made. The Fire of the gods confirmed their concerns when they made an offering for their safe return to At-lan, just prior to the scheduled sea trial.Once underway, the sea trial progressed without a sign of ending, as the Poseid’s covert mission began to unfold. Friendships grew from high in the government to the lowest of the submersible’s crew, even among the gods. Friends are murdered, strange beasts are commonplace, and Ad-mal abuse of technology is apparent, even before he reveals his darker side. His deeds will change the world of the Atlanteans forever. Only the gods and government elders know the truth, but they will not reveal it for the safety of those who remain behind.
