Saving the Pollador (The Long Tunnel Book 8) (English Edition) [Kindle-editie]

The year was 2171, four years after the android Androov woke eleven people from extended sleep in the tunnels between the underground Krylonean cities on Terra (Earth). The population began to grow in the cities when two Krylonean starships, the Maralon and the Vega, returned from three colonies with refuges of a devastating war between Krylon and Daaga that resulted in the destruction of the Krylonean’s beloved homeworld. While the two starships returned to the void to continue their search for other survivors, war broke out between the people of the false-goddess Justine and the alliance of four distinct civilizations. Only the intervention by the ascended being Raivan was Earth returned to her former glory after Justine destroyed it.The Vega returned just as the war was ending, with the crew (and their descendents) of the KSS Pollador, 197 people in total. The Pollador never made it to her destination of Arabicon after a fragment of Rabitis-7 struck her while she skirted the star system belonging to the dying red dwarf star Rabitis. The Pollador crashed into the slushy ocean on Rabitis-2, submerging into its depths; she didn’t reappear during the 500 years that the crew waited in a city abandoned by the simian Monku. The Pollador washed ashore, waiting patiently as the Maralon recovered survivors in the Sita system. Once on return to Terra, the starship investigated a faint distress signal identifying the source as the Pollador. The Arabicon colonists remained in extended sleep while crewmen moved them to the Maralon. The starship was nearly full when she returned to the void, straying into a system inhabited by reptilian Vorgans who forced the starship to land. The Vorgan held her crew captive while they sought to learn what secrets the starship hid from them. Only the passengers remained hidden and unharmed.Artemis, the Olympian goddess of the hunt, began to experience unexplainable desires for the Terran Randall Devens. Even then, she continued to honor his union with Denise and the vow of eternal love they made while Atlanteans during the 1st Age of Atlantis. Randall and Artemis shared a dream that explained their mutual attraction to the other. Randall felt enlightened, but Artemis believed that she’d betrayed Denise and Olympia; her depression deepened until the truth pulled her from its depths. During that time, Artemis also foresaw the discovery of the Pollador and the capture of the Maralon. After Androov shared his programming with Scotward Six, the new alliance mounted missions to save both starships. Scot couldn’t discern any changes, but Artemis could, striking up a relationship with the Krylonean android. Although platonic, their future relationship remained questionable as Scot evaluated his new emotions at least until they both lay dying during the effort to snatch the Maralon from the Vorgan’s grip. Artemis saved Scot from death thanks to divine intervention by the ascended Olympian Raivan. His revival sparked a revelation within Scot’s circuits; Artemis was not as lucky.Efforts to save the Pollador steadily deteriorated until it became questionable whether the repair crew might also perish before the starship could be raised. Then, an asteroid struck Rabitis, awakening the dormant star; could the crew save the Pollador before the star destroyed Rabitis-2? Would Artemis’ clone find her answers with Randall, or possibly Scot? Life is a series of awakenings, but would Artemis awaken?
