Braindrips, the fifth book in the Children’s Poems for Grown-ups and Vice Versa series, is a collection of poems—most written spontaneously on unassociated subjects. Although there is no uniting theme to these poems, there’s rhyme and reason, and, naturally, breadth. Among the topics addressed: the phenomenon of the loudmouth; the nature of weeds from the point of gardeners and from the weeds themselves, (yes, they have a point of view) to comments on fate and infinity; and what lives have in common with a carousel. Every poem in this series endeavors to entertain while introducing children to new vocabulary, sometimes new outlooks as well as to a variety of tones, styles and rhetorical techniques with the aim of developing the child’s interest not only in poetry but language in general.
