Glinda, the good witch, writes a short story about what happened in the land of Az when Sarah from Nome, Alaska dropped in. It’s a little political satire melting together L. Frank Baum’s "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and a caricature of the elements from the 2008 presidential campaign, contemplating what would happen if a young, maverick, socially conservative, moose-hunting young woman named Sarah were whisked away from a small town in Alaska and found herself in the land of The Wonderful Wizard of Az (a.k.a. The Wonderful Senator of Arizona). She might follow the Bridge to Nowhere in search of her dreams. Dreams that have much to do with making Alaska’s temperature far more pleasant and making its oilfields much more accessible. And dreams that have little to do with protecting lions and tigers and polar bears -- oh my! By the time Glinda’s short story is over, there really will be nowhere like Nome.
