This book reflects an afterthought. It is a written companion to the audiobook of the same name. Usually, the book comes before the audiobook, but not this time. In fact, it may be the first of its kind--a true rara avis in terris. The text in the following pages is slightly modified from “standard” E. A. Poe writings. This was done to match the transcriptions as closely as possible. We urge the reader to listen to the audiobook version of Poe Boys: A Baker’s Dozen. It really is a good time for all. The differences between this following text and that of other Poe books are minor. Some of our modifications reflect mistakes in the audiobook narrations that did not affect the meaning of the story and were therefore left unedited. Other modifications reflect differences we find in various “standard” publications of Poe's work. Our main sources are downloaded files from The Project Gutenberg (www.gutenberg.org). Our earliest complete source, however, is The Works Of Edgar Allan Poe In Ten Volumes, published by Funk & Wagnalls Company in 1904. We use this edition as the definitive source whenever we confront discrepancies. The Funk & Wagnalls edition is our source for the first-published dates we cite for each piece. We also corrected some mistakes in grammar and spelling to modern standard American written English. Further, while we leave all of the non-English language found in the texts, we translate most of it. This is for the benefit of those who do not wish to pause in their enjoyment of a story to look up the meaning of foreign phrases. We earnestly hope that Mr. Poe would approve of the artistic license we used in our book and audiobook productions of his writings; but, being quite dead, he is in no position to express his opinion about our renderings of his work--or is he?--The Editors
