The author attended his last school year at the English School, Cairo, (picture) after the Suez crisis when the English staff was expelled from Egypt. The Egyptian ministry of education tried to reorganize the school but their effort left much to be desired. As a result the year was a total loss for him and a consequence of this was his failure as a freshman at MIT. Here he describes his tame (by modern standards) and unproductive "delinquency" during that wasted year.
