Yes, I'm a Liberal. I must admit I wear that title proudly. I have been what I would call a progressive liberal most of life. My interest in politics started at a fairly young age, I was all of fourteen when one of my teachers gave us this bizarre little quiz that were supposed to determine in about ten questions whether you was a Democrat or Republican.Thinking back to that test I'm fairly convinced the teacher was a conservative and was trying to warp my young mind into believing I was somehow a young Republican. The poorly worded questions were what I would call very obtuse consisting of such gems like, “Do you believe the government should have power to decide what you can and cannot do?” Talk about loading the dice huh?Since that day, I have been keenly interested in politics. I never believed even at that young age, issues could be so black and white. Or neatly formed into 15 word questions, Or that such a test could define what a person truly believes.I decided to write this book because I have found there to be a certain lack in view points expressed by those of my generation. At the ripe old age of thirty I don't consider myself a sage or a scholarly old wise-man, but over my life's experience I have come to believe in a certain set of political, social and moral values. It seems most pundits and talking heads in the news industry have been around since Kennedy was president. You see very few people of my generation in the industry. I find this disturbing because we are the next wave of politicians, lawyers, judges and even presidents. We are the young turks of the political establishment so to speak. And each election cycle our voices are heard louder and clearer with each vote we cast. I believe the future of our society hinges not only on people of my age group, but those still in college and even those who are not old enough to cast a ballot yet. I believe that future is becoming more liberal then ever before. In this book I hope to share some of my beliefs and ideas that make up the foundation for why I consider myself a liberal. I intend to cover a variety of topics and issues both on the political and social side of things. I do not expect everyone to share my views or agree with me completely, but that is after all what sets Americans apart. We have the freedom to express our ideas and views with everyone.I hope you enjoy the book, and now with all of that said allow me to explain why I say.... Yes, I'm a liberal.
