A comedy about about movie writing and sex. Our story begins with Karen, the intern, deciding to work for a top comedy movie writer. What could be more fun? He lives in a Malibu Beach house overlooking the pounding surf. "Writers don't have interns. We work at home," he tells Karen when she asks for a position. “Great. I’ll stay in your guest room,” she says. "Absolutely not!" he replies. "No way. Forget it. Not in a million years." But of course she moves into the beach house anyway. How hard can it be to live and work in the same little beach house without driving each other crazy? Karen the intern talks on the phone to her best friend: “Ashley, I’m famous. They wrote a book about me,” said Karen on her smartphone. "It's called the Hollywood Intern." “Really? I haven’t seen it.” “It’s on Amazon.” “Has anybody seen it?” "It just came out. I think it's going to be a big bestseller.” “What makes you say that?” asked Ashley sarcastically. "You Hollywood people hype up everything. Are you going to make it into a movie?" “Actually, yes. We're looking for a director right now." "Yeah? In your dreams, baby." "Why are you being such a pill, Ashley? The point is that I’m the star of this book, and I'm very excited about it. You could be a little more supportive.” “Okay, okay. What do you want me do? Swoon? Fall over with joyous rapture and kiss your toes?” “Ashley, you know how professional sports teams are always trading their players? I swear I’m going to trade you in for another best friend." “As long as it's to Hawaii or Miami Beach. Just give me some of that warm weather.” "I was thinking of Alaska. How does an Anchorage, Alaska team sound?" "With climate change, that could work. Just make sure it's by the coast. I'll open a tropical beach bar. It'll be named the You Can See Russia from Here Beach Bar and Grill." The intern's career takes off. But the great and wonderful movie writer's career fizzles out like a wet firecracker. Can they still be a team? Have a relationship? Karen came from Rochester, New York, to "make it" in Hollywood. She moves into a screenwriter's Malibu Beach home to help him write a new hit movie. But instead of working on the script, he seems more interested in hanging out with his friends at the nearby Santa Monica sports bar. And dating his super sexy stuck up movie star girlfriend. Karen takes an instant dislike to the celebrity actress. It's her first challenge: How to replace her with someone else? Like herself? This is an outstanding "he said, she said" epistolary novel, sharing with you the personal experiences of both the man's version and the woman's version of events. It's the real story of how a major movie gets made. From singles bars, to ski slopes. From Hollywood studios to the Cannes Film Festival. It's the ultimate novel. Whereas 1930s "The Day of the Locust" may be the classic novel about the Golden Age of movies, this book is surely the ultimate Hollywood novel of today. .
