We have a culture that champions a form of sociopathy. Given this appalling reality, a shift in societal behavior can come only from people who have no choice but to fight back against exploitation and impoverishment at the hand of the government and ruling elites. At a certain point, there are enough people with little or nothing to lose to where the fight begins in earnest – the fight for a new society. Without a common vision, opposition to Superpower corporatism and globalism is incoherent and ultimately devolves, becoming disintegrative, anarchic and reactionary. We must envision a positive replacement for the old, and now corrupt, order. The needed transformations will have to be a combination of centralized organizations and decentralized non-pyramidal organizations, transformed institutions, and the emergence of the new in the cracks in the old society. Everywhere, seeds of a new society are already germinating and sprouting. Working models are thriving, including a growing number of egalitarian, often green, worker-owned cooperatives; B Corporations that allow a company to subordinate profits to social and environmental goals; community and state banks are being created, to step away from the global financial system with its increasingly speculative investments and false valuations. Companies producing real value – intrinsic value rather than speculative value – are doing well. These include solar power companies and organic foods producers.Investing in education, health, infrastructure, green-tech, and environmental sustainability make sense economically and is, in fact, crucial to our survival. In this book, many more examples are given of transformations occurring now.
