https://sites.google.com/site/davidandnoelleboulton/STARLIGHT AND CANVASVOLUME THREE OF THE BLUEBELLS AND CANVAS SERIESPoems written by David—and also poems written by NoelleI often think that David's work reminds me of Dylan Thomas, but then again, no, and I decide...Robert Frost...and then again, no...and then I realize...that his work reminds me only of his work.. My husband, the Welsh poet and writer and playwright and painter {all the paintings on the covers of our books were painted by David}...How to describe the deep and soulful, almost achingly beautiful poems that the countryside of Wales inspires in his soul... He likes to write poems by the small bunch, crumpling them up and putting them into his pockets...I find the crumpled bits of paper in his pockets, and I lovingly uncrumple them, placing them under my straw sunhat, waiting for him to have time to read the scribbled words out to me, and I type them up for him...and try to save the ones that I find have been tossed into the trash, beautiful works of art in the trash bag that sits behind a little shelf door in our cozy kitchen...I, his gentle wife, Noelle, am going to give you a sample of one his poems, to read, right here. I think you will all think that he a quite wonderful Welsh poet...when you see this snippet of his work:Title: Honey LightWhen the August sky turns from honey-light To the color of gold-- and dusk becomes night…The Peacocks and Tortoise Shells fold up their wingsAnd roost amongst the buddleia and wait for dawn; Then the moon-moths, the worshippers of the silver orbStretch their silvery wings and dance in the magical blue-night air;In coolness and bathed in moonlight beams--They dance their flutter dance there...And love the coolness of the night...And worship their lunar mother so bright...And sip the nectar from the flowersUntil the return of the sunlit hoursThat change the night to day And wake the sleeping butterfliesTo bask in the new morn sun. David BoultonDid you like it? What a thing for a wife to do, for a woman to do, to write such words about the man she loves, on the back of a book, but what can I say? The Welsh poet and playwright...Well, we've written so many plays together, and yes, I love him, it's true. His brooding smile, Richard Burton-ish, self-mocking smile, and then the boyish smile, oh-so like...probably...the boyish smile of Dylan Thomas when he was older, wiser, maybe a bit sad, just a bit, overall ...just from life overall. Well, I've tried to describe my husband to his readers, on this page, but all I can say is, all I really know is...what my heart feels... If I were ever to lose his love....I would spend the rest of my life inhaling air, in and out, inhale, exhale, trying to make myself feel that inhaling air is the same as breathing...because that is how beautiful a thing it is to know this poet, to be married to this great Welsh poet, to write plays and poetry books and novels with this great Welsh artist. His work will always be greater than mine, and that's just the truth, no matter what people think of my work, if they think I am a good writer...--Well, but he is so much better than me, and besides that...he has taught me so much of what I know about writing and creating poetry. He is my mentor and my husband..and I could never write as well without him in my life. He is my teacher and my husband...and ...I hope you all love his poetry, and I hope Wales loves his poetry. Noelle
