Six Guys is a memoir of friendship and a social history of Hackensack, New Jersey during the post-World War II era. Our group of six buddies met in elementary school and graduated from high school in 1963. We remain friends to this day—largely because of the impact of our home town and our shared experiences during our youth in the conformist and complacent 1950s and our young adulthood in the cultural and political revolutions of the 1960s. This book provides a long overdue reality check for readers whose ideas about New Jersey come from lame Jersey jokes or The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and Jersey Shore.
