Space used to be a big deal. When I was a kid, every time an astronaut was launched into orbit you were allowed to watch TV at school. No wonder an entire generation of youngsters claimed to be fascinated by space. Nowadays, space shots—the literal kind—are only news when something goes wrong. Maybe it’s because, as the scientists tell us, the universe is expanding, so there’s more space to go around. Here’s my question for you smarty-pants astrophysicists: if space is expanding, what is it expanding into? It’s got to be other space, so why aren’t we using that extra room for storage right now? It would sure help me organize my garage. The tales collected here aren’t science fiction, but I never did too well in science, so that’s no loss. They’re more like UFOs; ephemeral phenomena that are divorced from everyday reality, and which will expose you to scorn if it gets around that you’ve encountered them.
