OVERVIEWRebecca and Pete decide to leave Chicago and take a well deserved, month long vacation in Maine, near the seashore. Rebecca is familiar with the area since she was born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts. They get a great deal on the rent, but when they get there they find the seventeenth century house doesn’t have electricity but does have a gas range and indoor plumbing. The next day they are visited by the realtor who bargains with them to allow five guests to spend a week with them for a fifty percent reduction in their rent. The owner had recently passed away and the guests are relatives of the owner and are there for the reading of his will. Reluctantly, they agree. The guests begin arriving that evening and Pete learns that one of the guests is a full-fledged witch. Early the next day, Pete and Rebecca decide to leave the guests to fend for themselves and wander the nearby beach and the tiny, local town.Out of curiosity, Pete checks with the town and finds the previous owner did not have any relatives and there is nothing on the court docket for a will reading. As the story progresses, strange things begin happening in and around the house that are out of Pete and Rebecca’s control. Pete tries to find the realtor to get out of his contract but no one in town has ever heard of him. That evening, while everyone is sound asleep, there is a lot of noise in the house and Pete gets out of bed to investigate. He finds the five guests are also wandering through the house to find the source of all the commotion. When he returns to his room, Rebecca is missing and no one has seen her since every one retired earlier that evening. He can’t remember if she was in bed when he got up.Pete spends the rest of the evening searching every nook and cranny inside and outside of the house and even goes down to the beach trying to find Rebecca. The next morning, still in a state of shock about Rebecca’s disappearance, Pete heads into town and discovers strange and disheartening information about the “haunted” house and its previous owners. He has no clue as to what his next step should be in his search. His problems don’t end with Rebecca’s disappearance. As the story progresses, strange and eerie things beginning happening to the guests, the house, and the witch who has admitted she actually is a certified witch. There is rumor in town that his guests are actually reincarnated relatives and murdered residents of the seventeenth century house and town.
