Eighteen year old Matthew McKey was born with facial deformities due to a medical condition known as prognathism. It results in Matthew being born with an enlarged jaw and nose. Essentially a lonely, social outcast, he is bullied by the school thug, Lester Boyd, and wishes he could just be like the other kids at school. He also dreams of falling in love with a beautiful girl in his class who befriends him, Loren, but doesn’t believe this will ever really happen. Mathew’s life then changes dramatically after a chance meeting with a gifted plastic surgeon. His appearance is altered by surgery, and he is transformed into a handsome young man; all of which takes place over the school summer holidays. Initially Matthew adjusts well to his new appearance. He starts dating girls and living the life he always dreamt of. This all changes when a twist of fate heads Mathew down a path of destructive behavior. A path which may prove fatal for himself and everything he loves. “I stood looking down at him as he lay sprawled out on the grass. The Samoan had thought I was an easy target. I had probably done more boxing in the last four months than he had done in a lifetime.”
