Frans B Olsson was a self-taught painter and begun very young to draw and paint. Even before he started his carrier as a seaman at 14 he had drawing as his greatest interest. During his stays in port particularly in Middlesbrough he participated in the instructions at the Art College in the city. He also took lessons from professor of art Erik Jerkén in Stockholm. His favorite artist was William Turner, whom he studied as often as he could. During more than 50 years of sailing Frans Olsson painted some 1000 sea scapes. They went fast and were both given away and sold to friends and acquantence all around the shipping World. Regrettably, it is very difficult to trace even a fraction of his production today.
