A year ago, on one of my trips to Costa Rica, I stopped at my local book store to pick up paperback books to take with me for the long, five-hour flight from New York to San Jose. I was struck by the fact that there were no new novels of the genre I like and usually buy. Since what I wanted was not on the shelf, I sensed a market for a af novels with a new genre, something other than books about lawyers, detectives, doctors, wars, or end-of-the-world scenarios. Although I like these books, I not qualified to write on those topics. A minister once told me, “Everybody has at least one sermon to preach.” I think this is likely true for authors—we all have at least one novel to write. This one is mine.
