Someone is killing the hottest porn stars on the Internet. That’s the conclusion reached by FBI Special Agent Jackie Forbes, the book’s heroine. This is her chance to shine and she grabs it, almost loses it, then takes it back. Short chapters that lay the ground work at first and then reel you in at an ever increasing pace. I move from one scene to the other, weaving several subplots into the main plot, which is Jackie’s pursuits to solve the crimes. One such subplot is of Yvette Montreux, the young Parisian porn star. My goal is for the reader to come to really like her, to be rooting for her travails and to be hopeful in her romance. Most of all, I wrote it so that the reader hopes she does not get killed. “I’m a computer-nerd, wanna be super cop,” Jackie describes herself. She came to the FBI to run its huge database of crimes. She has tweaked it into a major crime solving tool. The only problem for Jackie - she wants field time. Because her database uncovers this serial murder spree in process, she is rewarded with her wish granted. Tom Bates is Jackie’s supervisor. He’s also an old flame and a heartbreak, since he broke off their affair in favor of his marriage. As we learn more about Jackie, we discover her weakness, her flaw - she repeatedly falls for Mr. Wrong. The tension between Bates and Jackie is an underlying theme that spices the drama throughout the story. For political reasons, her investigation is shelved by her superiors. Jackie has to fight to get it back. She finally wins, but by going around the normal chain of command, directly to the Director of the FBI. Her victory creates animosity towards her, especially by Tom Bates, who is left out of the loop. A solution is found whereby the two run the investigation team as co-leaders. This creates some interesting dynamics. A major break comes Jackie’s way in the form of Professor Axel Rothman. He is on the faculty of MIT and one of the early pioneers of the Internet. He volunteers his services, his insight and in the process, he implicates himself as a suspect. Jackie trusts him. More than that, she falls for the debonair, bearded Professor, to the dismay of his wife - a woman too smart to be fooled. Hot on the trail of another suspect, the players find themselves in Paris. The Yvette subplot folds into the main and we fear for her life. She and Jackie befriend each other as Yvette agrees to be the bait for a ‘sting’. But is it the right sting? Throughout the story, I have written clues and leads for Jackie and the team to follow up on. Some of them are technical in nature, but written in a non technical way. E-mails, computer files, Internet web sites and so on, all serve to make the drama contemporary and fresh. Jackie goes through a transformation, while staying within her character. She has to, given all that happens - she falls for a suspect, escapes an attempt on her life, endures political pressures to conform, gets arrested herself for shooting Tom Bates (she didn’t do it) and comes face to face with her own contribution to her troubles. Does Yvette get killed? Do they catch the killer - or at least - the right killer? Buy the book, please
