In preparation for his upcoming re-election campaign President Kennedy was in the process of endearing himself to the voters in Florida and Texas. Dallas was the next to the last stop of a grueling campaign to reach out to the voters in the south that he would need in order to win the election coming up in 1964. On Friday, November 22, 1963, Kennedy gave a speech, which would be his final one, at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce Breakfast at Hotel Texas in Fort Worth. Air Force One arrived at Love Field in Dallas at 11:39 am. After greeting the throng of people gathered there the presidential motorcade made its way through downtown Dallas in route to the Trade Mart where Kennedy was scheduled to have a luncheon speech. At 12:29 pm the presidential motorcade turned off of Main street onto Houston street as it entered Dealey Plaza. Directly ahead of the motorcade was the Texas School Book Depository building where Lee Harvey Oswald worked as a clerk. The motorcade slowed down to make a 90 degree turn onto Elm street which would lead under the triple overpass and onto the Stemmons Freeway. But, as fate would have it, as the motorcade passed in front of the TSBD three rifle shots rang out. The president and Texas Governor John Connally, who was riding in the seat just in front of Kennedy, are both struck by a bullet. Seconds later a third shot hits JFK in the back of the head sending a horrible spray of blood and matter into the air. The president slumps over into the seat as secret service agent Clint Hill is climbing onto the back of Presidential limousine, a 1961 Lincoln Continental (SS-100-X), in an effort to protect the first lady who, in shock, is climbing onto the trunk of the car to retrieve part of her husband's skull. The motorcade raced off toward Parkland Memorial Hospital with the wounded men bleeding in the back seats. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff at Parkland President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was pronounced dead at 1:00 pm CST. While the nation and the world were in shock from the horrific turn of events in Dallas Lee Harvey Oswald, who had taken the three shots from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, was making his frantic escape attempt. At 1:15 pm Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit was shot dead by Oswald at the intersection of 10th and Patton when he approached Oswald to question him in association with the shooting. Oswald was apprehended at the Texas Theater at 1:50 pm and taken to the police station in Dallas where he was questioned about his alleged participation in the shooting of president Kennedy and officer Tippit. Oswald, like any guilty person recently apprehended, denies the charges and claims he is innocent. In another twist of fate on Sunday, November 24, 1963, Oswald is shot and killed by Carousel Club owner Jack Ruby as he is being transferred to the county jail. This action lead to the birth of many conspiracy theories in the aftermath of the Kennedy shooting and persist to this day.*** This story is a fictitious situation that was thoroughly researched and based in fact.
