One of the things I’ve always wanted to do was write a book. After reading Haruki Murakami’s “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running”, I thought…why not now? This is the book that was written before I wrote it, sort of like Savage Garden’s “I Knew I Loved You”. This book is a compilation of essays, short stories, and poems that fall into one of six parts. The first part is “Ranting and Raving”. These are funny or interesting things that you can laugh at or think about while taking a shit. The second part is “Philosophizing”. These pieces are written in the same vein as the rants in the first section, but much more serious in tone. I take a page out of Eminem’s playbook and begin with the funny, commercially viable stuff first and then go into the more serious stuff I actually want to talk about later. The third part, titled “Reflections”, is about my own experiences running and climbing and in general just living. The fourth part is “Tales from Afar”, which includes travel stories and stories with fantastical elements. The fifth part is stuff I’ve published on Thought Catalog, and the sixth part is “Wax Poetic”. Whenever I feel doubt about being able to write anything of significance, I am reminded by The Alchemist that if I go for something with all my heart, the universe will conspire to help me attain it. I hope that this is not the end of my journey at the Pyramids, but rather the beginning of a long journey for a young shepherd trying to find his Personal Legend.
