Michael Sante had parents once. He had a family and friends and a home. Once. He was happy once, too. Now, he only has the Rook. Michael and two others, a businessman named Silvermin and a girl named Tuesday, were all shipwrecked and abandoned on an island with nothing but themselves to rely on. They had little food or water. It was there, however, that the Rook found Michael. Following the time on the island and its gruesome conclusion, Michael is left alone in the world once more. Or as alone as one can be when he is haunted by the demon known only as the Rook, a monster so cruel and sadistic that he's a criminal even by his own race's standards. Will Michael ever be able to free himself from the Rook's clutches? Or will he eventually be killed as others try to get to the Rook-through him? Or, worst of all... Will he have to live with the Rook for the rest of his life? It all started with the Rook. Michael's just worried it'll all end with the Rook, too.
