Elizabeth Pennington is an interior designer in the heart of New York City. The firm has just landed a huge account with the influential businessman Jack Drescher. She loves her big city life. But sometimes, she feels nostalgic for her childhood home on the rocky coast of Maine, and Amelia, her grandmother. Her parents passed away when she was very young and nothing was ever said about the circumstances of their deaths. Elizabeth grew up at the Pennington Point Inn, a property that had been in her family for generations. As any good New England landmark, the inn held many secrets. Originally a boarding school for girls, it was forced to close after the mysterious disappearance of one of its students. The case was never solved and the inn was opened after extensive renovations. After a particularly harrowing lecture from Vera, her overbearing aggressive boss, Elizabeth receives a phone call from her grandmother, asking her to come home to Pennington Point. Upon her arrival, Elizabeth is met by her old friend Rashelle, who is now working as the front desk manager. Rashelle is quick to fill in her friend on the details. The inn is in trouble. One of the guests, a teenage girl, has gone missing. The police have no solid leads. Additionally, there is a lawyer putting extreme pressure on Amelia to sell the inn immediately. Rashelle and Elizabeth take it upon themselves to find the missing girl. But the more they search, the more questions arise. Elizabeth struggles to support her grandmother, save the inn from being sold, as well as pleasing her boss, who is hounding her on her cell phone to begin working on the project for Drescher. As if that was not bad enough, a category four hurricane is headed straight for the inn. Amid the evacuation of the coastline, Elizabeth stumbles upon the vital clues that unravel more than one of the mysteries of her childhood home.
