By examining the design of the Roman villa, and in stark contrast, the tenement apartment, we see an indication that while the plebeian suffered from noise pollution, the elite of Rome had shelter or other means to be largely protected from this plight. We also see that this noise seemed to affect the overall health and well being of the plebeian of Rome in adverse and potentially lethal ways, as there was very little means to avoid it.
