"THE LOTUS BLOOMS" is A Collection of Poems by RAMSUNDAR PERSAD (1927-2002). These poems express his understanding of human longings for both earthly and heavenly love. Expressing the ephemeral nature of earthly love and life, he longs for Divine communion and union. Poem # 25, "They came, They saw, They conquered", is about his grand mother Gangee Maharaj who came to Trinidad, West Indies in 1900 as an indentured immigrant from Raipur, India. They toiled, they prayed, they worked in the sun and rain from morning to night. They conquered all obstacles, they loved, they came to their own, they had arrived.
