Ever since the invention of the horseless carriage there have been brave people who have tried to seek the fastest possible speed for a human to obtain. From 1898 these attempts were recorded, and the quest to be the fastest became an official one. Many books have been written on the subject of Malcolm Campbell, the Land Speed Record and the various cars but in this book I have endeavoured to keep with the basic facts to build up a concise history of the event with details of the cars and the brave drivers that took them to their limits. This is their story.Rather than being a definitive history of just one particular car or era, this book focuses on the overall story giving a brief description of each record holder with a photograph of the winning car.
