The “accident” that occurred on the Pier Road in Weston, a small village in County Donegal, in September 1973, is remembered by very few people in Ireland, in spite of the fact that eleven people died, including four policemen, and scores were injured, including thirty children. The media coverage of the event focused on the bereaved survivors, and the official tributes to the four policemen who died “in the line of duty.” But there was a great deal more to the Pier Road incident than the version that appeared in the newspapers—indeed the story involved multiple murders, the occult, faith healing, and official misconduct by the police, but none of this was revealed to the reporters covering the story.
