About an educational institution that transformed adolescent boys into "polished gems". This comment from one boy covers the story: "So many of us came to the Hostel as brash, crude, 'ignorant', unhewn base metals, and left as polished gems.". The key to life in the Hostel was discipline, and what has been described as a "consistent routine" over a five-seven year period. The only written rule of the Hostel was: "A breach of common sense is a breach of Hostel rules. The book covers the process, the lessons, the delights and pains of boys at study and at recreation. It is an understatement simply to say that the lessons of the Hostel served us well in preparing us for adult work and life. The lessons should also serve present day youth well. The book is also my way of saying "Thanks"; to offer readers "another taste of Grenada"; and to add validation to the boarding school as an educational institution.
