“Teaching Oral Disease Prevention. 1 of 12” is the first in a series of twelve Teaching Oral Disease Prevention Amazon Kindle, eBooks written by retired dentist Dr. Garth Pettit, Author, Oral Health Care Educator to fulfil a mission he began in 1996, Prevent Oral Diseases in Children. Research led him to put the oral hygiene instruction Brush Your Teeth to a SWOT analysis which indicated the instruction does not clean the entire mouth of unwanted debris, nor leave the whole mouth protected against oral diseases and therefore could be a cause of oral diseases. He created the instruction, Treat Your Mouth, later changed the name to Treat Your Whole Mouth and more recently changed it to Paint Your Mouth....because children became thrilled and excited by the thought and wanted to ‘paint your mouth’. This eBook is an oral health care education resource children themselves can read and understand but preferably teaching oral health and teaching oral disease prevention is best achieved with supervision by parents and, or educators. This book discusses oral hygiene, it is aimed at children, it is very much a picture book and it teaches young kids how to prevent oral diseases. Kids learn that Oral 7 Hygiene refers to all seven surfaces within a mouth and "Paint Your Mouth" is their best oral hygiene instruction. It teaches children how to 'paint their mouths' and teaches a preventative program that is much better than just brushing teeth. The author believes good oral hygiene is best taught by parents and good oral health education is best taught by teachers in schools supported by parents - not by dentists. In it a friendly cartoon, GarGar The Dentist, the author’s “Alter Ego”, teaches very simple points defining oral health and why it is important. Besides GarGar The Dentist children meet various other characters from his SmileShine Gang who are experts: Booksie Owl (tongue), PadPaw the Rabbit (gums), Croc-O-Smile (teeth), Kook-a-Mum and Kooksie (roof of the mouth), Ruby Roo (floor of the mouth), Grinny Squirrel and Ben Bilbie (cheeks), Minie and Munchie koalas (lips). The case is made for this different approach that involves not the usual tooth-brushing routines, but the kid-friendlier invitation to 'paint your mouth', rinse, then 'paint your mouth' again. Using his technique the toothbrush becomes a Mouth Brush, toothpaste is Mouth Paste, and kids are invited to have fun during the 'second painting session', which does not involve rinsing off the toothpaste and its protective qualities. Step-by-step graphics and simple instruction are parent-friendly and kid-friendly and allow for quick, easy instruction and a method that makes an oral hygiene routine fun. “Teaching Oral Disease Prevention. 1 of 12” is a fun-filled first step for children’s oral health education and oral disease prevention.
