Shrink Fitting Small Iron Collars Onto Wooden Shafts (Offcuts from the Forge Book 4) (English Edition) [Kindle-editie]

The use of shrink fitting to fit iron tyres onto wooden wheels is a well-established practice. The principle is that the iron tyre is made slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the wooden wheel. When the iron tyre is heated it expands to a size larger than the outside diameter of the wheel. The tyre will then fit over the wheel. The inspiration for the current paper came about when the question was asked if there is a lower limit to the size of collar that can be shrunk onto a wooden shaft.
