Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Michael Kelly runs primarily to keep in shape and competes only within the Marine Corps. His Sergeant Major devises a plan for "Gunny" to run, and win the New York City Marathon as a publicity and recruitment tool.Gunny's training begins one year in advance with a professional trainer and the cooperation of the base commander. This is a team effort and there are other Marine participants that will enter the race for the sole purpose of supporting Sergeant Kelly.
