Way down in the southern end of Arkansas lived a little girl named Arie. Her name was pronounced like Marie without the M. She lived with her aunt and uncle who had been her parents since she was a baby. She was a work of fiction but embodied characteristics both good, and maybe not so good, found in real little girls. Deep in Arie’s mind were questions about her parents and her home life which she knew was exceptionally good. In the summer of 1945 when she was eight years old most of the questions were answered. Some of the answers came in not so pleasant ways. Arie’s interactions with her family and friends, especially Logan, make for good reading. She faces difficulties as well as happy times. You will laugh and cry with her. Her life is enriched by people who make growing up in the small, tight community a unique experience. You will enjoy this, I just know. There will be more books to follow Red Rover, Red Rover with the same cast. It’s great reading for families. Adults will enjoy it and identify with some of the people and situations.
