Social work research and research on families have social roots in the Chicago School of Sociology, but few of today's researchers know this. In the present small book, I reclaim the heritage that provides a solid foundation for today's researchers. I show the important contributions that social work made to the Chicago School of Sociology, only to have those contributions erased from history. I also show that many of the "new" trends in qualitative research have roots that extend to the nineteenth century and were further developed in the early part of the twentieth century.
