Ram-haj is a classic tale of good versus evil told through the adventures of a boy named Ben and a golden dragon named Ram-haj. Two principal dragons appear in the story—Ben’s friend Ram-haj and the crimson dragon Vorgath. The stakes are high. Should Vorgath win, the balance between good and evil will forever tilt in favor of evil. At the heart of the story are faith and friendship, and they are threatened by Vorgath’s plans. The basis for the story is formed when an ancient dragon, Mothem, discovers a magical spell that dramatically enhances the effects of other magic. This mysterious spell’s power is so frightening that the dragons seal it permanently. They could not have anticipated that Vorgath would find a way to break the seal. Ben’s adventure begins one winter day when he meets Ram-haj in the woods behind his house. The encounter is no coincidence. Ram-haj has an agenda. He seeks special qualities that Ben possesses in order to thwart Vorgath’s plan. He convinces Ben to go to Eindanor, the dragons’ kingdom, to help defeat the dragon. The journey to Ram-haj’s lair and the trip to Vorgath’s mountain are fraught with danger. Along the way, Ram-haj talks to Ben about magic and the ways of dragons. Both fascinate Ben, but he is conflicted about having left home and uncertain of his ability to help Ram-haj. He knows he must continue, but he feels unprepared to face a fully developed dragon. Doubts beleaguer him, and in the end, what saves him is not his magic but his friendship with Ram-haj. Ram-haj is a coming-of-age story and a tale of friendship. Ben leaves home to face the biggest challenge of his life. He struggles with constant misgivings and searches for courage while at the same time developing a wonderful friendship with Ram-haj. And in the end, it is their friendship that succeeds in defeating Vorgath and averting the evil that threatens their worlds.
