PLEASURE AND PAIN: Dangerous Lovers, Waitresses, and Doctors in Alaska, Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala - a true story - plus Alaska romance boating (English Edition) [Kindle-editie]

THE AUTHOR: I am a male MD psychiatrist. In the book I am sometimes married and sometimes single: divorced with no children. I was relatively free to travel; so I let myself go. Forewarned is forearmed. Sir Francis Bacon said, “For knowledge itself is power.” I hope my experience will help you to experience more pleasure, and less of the various pitfalls. SYNOPSIS OF BOOK When I was I was single, I spent three-years in Mexico. My cultural and romance problems with women, such as waitresses and doctors, is described. I tell of some of my experiences in Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, which I visited for several months. The famous Mayan ruins of Tikal and Copan were visited; but I don’t write much about the buildings, the beaches, or the history. I write about my personal interaction with the people. During my six years as a psychiatrist in Alaska, I hunted and fished. Some experiences are described. This includes true romance. Likewise in Spokane, Washington, and in Arizona, Idaho, and Iowa. SOME EXCERPTS FROM THE BOOK TEXAS: Ten years after medical school, I visited my medical-school friend in Dallas. Mike said, “On Saturday night, you drank a half a fifth of tequila straight; then you raced around on your motorcycle.” I thought, Yeah, I did. Mike said, “Your motorcycle was so big that you couldn’t touch the ground flatfooted.” I thought, You’re right. Mike said, “You were crazy!” I said, “Now wait a minute. Who drank the other half of the fifth of tequila?” Mike was silent. I said, “Who then rode on my motorcycle behind me?” Mike was silent. The answer was that it was usually Mike. If I was crazy; then so were he and a lot of other people. GUATEMALA: Fifteen-year-old female Chimil hustled me from the street. In my hotel room, I gave Chimil a razor blade and a safety pin, and I asked her to drain the two-infected insect bites on my back. Chimil wore a severed rooster’s head on a leather-thong necklace. The rooster’s auburn feather color matched the color of Celestia’s beautiful auburn hair... MEXICO: While the bus was descending into Copper Canyon, French Monica and I exited the back Emergency Exit of the 1953 US recycled school bus. While the bus was moving, we climbed the ladder to the roof. Among the luggage on the roof rack, we often quickly laid flat to get underneath overhanging tree branches and the rare electrical line. In Mexico, they would let you kill yourself, if you wanted. Monica and I were riding on top of the bus for the best view. Mexico’s Copper Canyon is larger than Arizona’s Grand Canyon. The bus top: To not be swept off by overhanging branches or electrical lines, I sometimes flattened myself on top of twenty-year-old Monica; or she on top of me... ALASKA: I was fishing from my cabin-cruiser boat. The game warden arrived in his boat. He said, “You can’t fish here. The mouth of Peterson Creek is closed to fishing.” I said, “This isn’t Peterson Creek. It’s Weyditch Creek.” The game warden disagreed. I said, “Hey! I know this area.” I pointed and assertively said, “That is Weyditch Creek, which is open to fishing.” The game warden looked angry and put his hand on his holstered pistol... I went to Juneau’s Lemon Creek prison to interview a client prior to his criminal trial. I introduced myself to the prisoner. We hadn’t previously met. The prisoner said, “I’m not Gene, your client. I came to give you a warning. The district attorney wants a prisoner to kill you. The district attorney will drop his prosecution case if the prisoner kills you after being bailed out.” There were reasons why most of my outdoor gear was camouflage colored. I painted my kayak in camouflage for a possible three-hundred-mile-ocean kayak escape to Canada, where I would be outside US jurisdiction... My Juneau escape plan: My kayak was hidden in the bush north of Juneau...
