Washington Irving's "Old Christmas" 1875 is the story of an old fashioned Christmas celebration in an old English manor house that revived Christmas customs of long ago. Irving, who had a great influence on Charles Dickens completed this work 20 years prior to Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". "There was a quaintness, too, mingled with all this revelry, that gave it a peculiar zest; it was suited to the time and place; and as the old Manor House almost reeled with mirth and wassail, it seemed echoing back the joviality of long-departed years."Beautifully illustrated by RANDOLPH CALDECOTT with art work from the original publication.
