The wanderings and extraordinary adventures of Odysseus are described in The Odyssey of Homer (700 B.C.) and a number of translations from the original Greek are available in the market at present. For the reader interested in the classics, these translations are the way to go, but they are not ideal for anyone only interested in the adventures of Odysseus. The way in which Odysseus survived the hardships of a journey of ten years from Troy to his home country, Ithaca, could not be described better as being a journey of endurance. He had to overcome challenges like the Cyclops Polyphemus, the goddess-sorcerer Circe, the Sirens, the Scylla and Charybdis sea monsters and many more. In the end he was the only one who survived – he lost all his men with whom he had left from Troy.
