This is a collection of three short stories. In The Hunt, Marcos grew up in East LA and never spent any time in the wilderness. He has heard stories about hunting all of his life from his grandpa and dreamed of going hunting. After moving to a new city he finally gets his chance. In Mors Tupkin, Mors Tupkin grew up learning to hunt and trap from his father. His skills grew and soon became well known for hunting and trapping. When Mors finds his father has been killed a bear, he develops a personal vendetta against all bears. He travels far and wide to hunt bears where ever he can find them. One day he encounters bear on property armed only with a 22 rifle and two dogs. In The Race, John reluctantly agrees to try an older sled dog, Rex, in a race after his retired mentor persuades him to do so. Soon he finds that one of his lead dogs is sick and he will have to put Rex in the lead. This idea bothers him because he swore he would never finish last again in a race and, without a good lead dog, finishing last was a good possibility.
