First, I don’t claim to be a writer or author. Upon retirement in 2001, I began making rough notes of memories of growing up on a dirt farm in rural north Mississippi. Other than having a small tractor, our farming operation was virtually the same as it would have been a hundred or two hundred years ago. With some help from siblings I collected a great amount of memories of our day-to-day activities in our struggle to survive during the Great Depression. We had no electricity, running water, or telephone, and our heat was by burning wood. My story is how we lived from about 1933 to 1946. We were poor, but we did not know it. My stories are all true and I really am glad to share them with you.
