Lucy Nordelander is a 25 year old woman living with her mother and grandmother on the family farm in Wisconsin. They are in a rut - eating, watching television and generally being anti social. Everything changes when Thorne Marshall sows up on their doorstep.Thorne has some disturbing revelations for Lucy, not the least of which is that she is a witch. Lucy's mom Nora and her grandma Ida reluctantly back this claim up. Lucy, it turns out, comes from a long hereditary line of powerful witches. Thorne has a quest for Lucy that could make or break humanity. Lucy is not at all interested in saving the world. She clearly lacks ambition. But she relented after Thorne offered her a salary.Thorne brings Lucy to the Council of Supernatural beings where she meets a bunch of seriously powerful beings who hate her on site. It's just like she's in high school again.Everybody thinks Lucy's a dud, witch in name only with no powers. Lucy is fine letting everybody think this because the less expectations they have the less work for her. Lucy and Torne are joined on the quest by Loken, a gorgeous elf who also dislikes Lucy. However, Loken does have a few secrets to tell. For instance, Thorne is a witch hunter who has the ability to stop Lucy from getting too powerful. Also, Thorne has been lying to her about the whole quest thing. So Lucy manages to get away from both of them and runs back to her mommy. But things are not good back at home either. Her wayward father is back and his other children want to murder Lucy. Also, members of her newly formed coven keep showing up and are not happy about Lucy being their new found leader. Lucy manages to discover her own powers and with a little help from her family might actually manage to save the world.
