The final volume of Whittle's popular trilogy came about not so surprisingly due to the insistence of his avid fans, many of which see him often at local markets where he sells his ten novels. This last of the trilogy is another page-turning novel set in and around his new hometown (of 35 years), Victoria, BC. Here Whittle utilizes so much actual history, including buildings and characters, that even history buffs find themselves hard-pressed to discern fact from fiction. This book won the author his first gold medal in the Independent Publisher Contest (IPPY) in 2007. As Nancy deals with the new challenges at home, she continues her charity work in aid of wounded soldiers, widows, and orphans through musical concerts in Seattle. In 1918, as the war appears to be slowly coming to an end, renewed hope that this will bring prosperity and a new beginning are dashed as tragedy strikes in the form of the deadly Spanish Influenza Epidemic. This book dispels any thoughts that the Pacific Northwest and it's people were not affected by this dreaded disease. Then, news of a special event lifts the spirits of Nancy and the Brown household.
