When game designer Jack Valentine finds his best friend’s body floating in a bathtub of blood, he immediately begins an investigation to uncover the reason behind Dexter’s sudden suicide. However, as Jack digs deeper into his friend’s death, he is confronted by personal demons from his own past. While rooting through Dexter’s personal belongings, Jack discovers a mysterious artificial intelligence program that claims to be responsible for his friend’s death. After conversing with this program, Jack finds himself haunted by dark dreams revolving around a digital death-like figure. In order to uncover the program’s true nature, Jack will have to put his career, his love life, and even his sanity on the line. Set in the heart of the video game and tech culture of the mid-’90s, Kill Screen offers a detailed history of artificial intelligence while exploring the themes of loss, personal forgiveness, and the social issues surrounding our ever-advancing technological culture.
