INTRODUCTION Shocking! A hung jury! The count was 8 for death and 4 for life in prison. First of all we must congratulate the jury members on their five months of hard work and on doing a diligent job performing their civic duty! After finding Jodi Arias GUILTY OF FIRST DEGREE PREMEDITATED MURDER AND OF CRUELTY during the murder trial, four jurors actually held out against the death penalty! This created a hung jury and is now prolonging the agony being felt by the Alexander family. The jury knew that this was a death penalty case. Just looking at the crime scene photos and lack of mitigating factors one would think a 12-0 verdict for death would be the appropriate judgement in this case! Jodi Arias’ vicious killing of Travis Alexander was a very personal crime. She used a knife so that she could be up close and personal with Travis. Killing a person with a knife sends your victim a message. The message is “I am killing you”. The message is “I have total control over your life and I am going to kill you”. “I will make you suffer”. Jodi Arias wanted to look into Travis’ eyes and to speak to him as she was killing him. She wanted him to know that she was killing him and making him suffer! She may have opened the shower door and asked Travis for a kiss. It was her breath on his breath. Then suddenly and viciously Jodi stabbed him in the chest catching him off guard! The sadistic slaughter over the next 108 seconds began. The savage knife attacks and verbal debasing caused Travis Alexander tremendous pain. He fought for his life as best he could while suffering blow after blow realizing he was dying and may never see his family again. The personal way in which Jodi Arias planned and executed her sadistic killing is completely unacceptable behavior in our society! The way she used her body for sex, the way she thought out her murderous scheme was pure evil. She was on a mission to kill and she wanted Travis to see and hear her killing him as his last vision before his death. Death by lethal injection can be the only appropriate sentence for Jodi Arias’ brutal crime. In this paper, we will examine why there should have been a 12-0 juror decision for the death penalty by lethal injection in the following three chapters: (1) The Personal Nature and Brutality of the Crime (2) The Emotional suffering inflicted upon the Family and Friends of t he victim. (3) The Narcissism Displayed by Jodi Arias
