Jack and Jill the Truth is a parody of a popular nursery story told in a style resembling, perhaps, a Mel Brookes comedy film. It is a tale of Jacques, a seventeenth century soldier of fortune (but not, by any stretch of the imagination, a competant one) returning to the Pyrenees after a long absence serving the king of France. Finding his village in the grip of a drought he is encouraged by his former sweetheart, the voluptuous Gillian, to climb Montagne Comptine, a formidable mountain reputedly cursed with evil. Having cleared the debris of an avalanche blocking the stream that feeds the village well he encounters the evil of which he was warned by Colette Pequignot, a toothless old hag with a poor memory. A reluctant hero, Jacques saves the village but is unable to save himself. Losing a desperate fight against the unseen evil, Jacques pays the ultimate price for his folly, (Ah, poor Jacques; and his lecherous desire for Gillian, an ordinary village girl with the biggest bust he’d ever seen, in all his travels throughout the kingdom of France. Gillian, his childhood sweetheart, is desperate to find her lover and goes in search of her beau but, finding him dead, suffers a similar fate and gives rise to a nursery rhyme told to children all over the world.
