Silas Seymour (1817 - 1890) was an American civil engineer and politician from New York. He journeyed west in 1866 in company with the Government Directors of the Union Pacific Railroad, for the purpose of inspecting the rapid construction of that greatest of modern enterprises; and also to examine the different routes which had been proposed for the road through the passes of the Rocky Mountains. This book is the story of this important and historic journey. This book published in 1867 has been reformatted for the Kindle and may contain an occasional defect from the original publication or from the reformatting.
