The 124th New York was one of the hardest fighting regiments in the East. In the thick of the fighting at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Petersburg, and the final Appomattox campaign, out of the 1100 men who started the war, there were 185 who went home at the end.More than simply a history, this is a personal journey; In this book, you will see the Civil War as was seen by the man in the ranks. Charles Weygant was one of the officers of the regiment, and was there for each engagement. He documents the wounds suffered by the men, what the men saw and suffered and their joyful welcome at home, when the war was over. The war was not something theoretical to him, but a very personal journey by an extraordinary group of men. This is a scanned edition from the original volume. I have used the words that he used, changing nothing. You see this as Mr. Weygant wrote it. Enjoy
