This is a touching novel of an immigrant, Harry alias Harish Kumar. He is reflecting about incidents and people in his life. It starts with his arrival as a student in early sixties in New York City, where he shares a room with a fellow Indian student. How their lives mingle is unexpected twist of the tale. They meet again, but then conditions had changed. Later Harry gets married and moves to Michigan for a job in a fortune 500 company. Soon he climbs the ladders of the corporate world, but eventually burns out from the rat race. After his wife’s and father’s death, Harry makes a life changing decision. What does he do? It is refreshing and encouraging step, for reader to find out. Then he writes a book, goes on television to promote it. That draws the attention of a single woman, Rita from Arizona. She invites him for a personal meeting. One week return ticket from Michigan to Arizona is wasted as Harish Kumar never returns to Michigan and moves with her. But Harish Kumar doesn’t sell his home in Arizona. The reason has to do with a dog and Harry’s late dad. Their story touches reader’s heart. Harish Kumar’s last phase of life starts in gym in Arizona where he meets Manu and Joseph, and they become friend. Their life events became part of the Harry’s life too. It involves crimes and adultery, but also wedding and celebrations. How Rita’s health and Harry’s friend, living in London, Dr. Ravi Gandhi’s involvement in Arizona brings twists and turns make the romantic part of the novel, till an accident occurs. But life’s roller coaster swings and Harish Kumar sees all the colors of life in this golden reflection. The reader meets people, witnesses the events of joy and sadness. The story also includes the wedding celebrations and honeymoon trips, separation and reunion, hope and despair in this unique novel by the Fulbright scholar author, Bal Barot.
