One of the best ways to learn the history of a community is to study its buildings. Joplin evolved from a ramshackle mining camp into a thriving city. The influx of people from Europe, as well as from the eastern and southern United States, influenced the way it grew. Meanwhile, the industrial revolution radically changed building technology. These combined factors make for a fascinating history. The Kindle version of this previously-published work has been revised and updated with many more photographs as well as the addition of an epilogue about the May 22, 2011 tornado that devastated the city. The preview is for the Kindle edition. The print edition does not have color photos.
