Free SpinWhile driving his eighteen-wheeler along a seldom traveled Nevada highway, “Good ole boy”, Jim Hendricks inadvertently becomes the beneficiary of a small fortune from an armored truck robbery. The “victim” of the heist is a major Las Vegas casino and since Jim had just lost more than he could afford at a black jack table, he was not sympathetic to the casino’s loss nor inclined to give the money back. After convincing his dubious wife Dori, not to return the money their challenge would be to keep the money and themselves out of the sight of the law, the IRS and the wrathful gods of Titan Towers Casino. With this in mind, the trucker and his wife embark on a series of misadventures as they set out to launder the cash, in their fashion.Set in the early nineties, “Free Spin”, follows the naive couple as they take on Nevada tables and slots. Their goal is to covertly gamble the stolen money into untraceable cash. After several days and nights of “Tilting at the Las Vegas Windmills” and losing thousands while worrying about being discovered, they retreat to Utah, poorer, frustrated and a little wiser. Their next plan is to use bank accounts, safe deposit boxes and ATM cards to process the potentially tainted money. They hit the road again, traveling throughout the Southwest; first depositing and then using ATM machines to withdraw clean money, with dozens of banks. Along the way they become involved with Colin Williams, a solo, around-the-world, sailor from England who has been unjustly beached in San Diego by an over zealous customs officer. As they take on Customs and the banking system, both in the U.S. and Mexico, the big hearted trucker also befriends a young Mexican illegal immigrant. Together the group stages a gutsy but amateurish raid to rescue Colin’s sailboat from Customs and disappear into Mexico with the money with the law close behind.
