"This research is focused on the political behaviour of the Italians living in Sydney. The idea is to verify the substance of the widespread criticism surrounding the political representation for external voters, namely that it grants the right to vote to uninformed and uninterested people who usually abstain. By using qualitative methods and according to social attributes such as the different generations of migrants and their level of education, we answered the following research questions: How do Italians in Sydney participate in Italian politics? What is the role played by the “Italian” networks active in Sydney? Which factors affect the political transnationalism of the Italians in Australia? Results will show significant differences among the various groups of emigrants, both in terms of their interest for Italian politics and in their opinion of the law that regulates their right to vote from abroad."
