This is the riches to rags story of a narcissistic young woman, Chris, who is born into one of Chicago’s most wealthy families, only to have her father completely disappear one cold and snowy evening. Since she only remembers him being drunk and abusive, she’s not sorry to see him go. Chris takes on the guilt of his departure because she secretly asked God to make him leave, and in her eyes, God delivered. Abandonment issues are recreated throughout the story in interesting ways—through selecting a career fraught with rejection (modeling and acting), long-distance relationships and even with God Himself (leaving church). Through several misadventures in dating, traveling, and working as a model in Chicago and New York, she tries everything she possibly can to find peace of mind somehow, only to find that her search includes reconciling with God as she seeks out her father.
